It looks like the cold and potential snow threat I talked about in my previous post is delayed, but not denied. We’ll start the week quite mild across the region with Dry weather and temps reaching the 60’s for much of Virginia and the 50’s for much of the northern M/A, from Sunday through Tuesday. But things will change quickly towards mid-week as a strong cold front sweeps through the M/A States Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. A nice period of Moderate to Heavy Rain is a good bet for Tuesday night into early Wednesday.
Colder air will follow quickly behind this cold front and portions of the interior and Northern M/A could possibly see some snow showers and flurries on the backside for Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night.
As the colder air mass settles in for Thursday and Friday, things start to get very interesting ! A rather powerful Clipper system will dive into the Plains and head for the TN Valley on Thursday, then east to the VA/NC Coast on Friday. All Global models are now on board with this storm for later this week. The pattern and setup do favor this possibility for an early March snow event, so I do continue too support this snow potential idea.
Per Today’s 12z EURO for LYH VA > The Wet Snow event starts Thursday Evening and continues into Early Friday Afternoon. Per this Euro run, it Looks like a Possible 3″-6″ event for ROA / LYH / CHO, VA up to I-95 DCA/BWI and to near PHL. This is the 3rd/4th consecutive Euro run that’s showing this storm for later in the week.
The 12z GFS is even more impressive but further south, Much of NC and Southern VA sees 6″-12″ !
The Canadian GGEM model is now showing the storm as well, but a touch warmer with both rain and snow for much of the M/A States during this time frame. More of a 1″-4″ event with some rain.
So with all that being said, It’s time for me to really give this threat some real consideration for a light to moderate snow event occurring later this week. As of now, Thursday night into Friday appears to be the timing of this event.
Interior NC, much of VA, and into MD / PA / DE and NJ are all in the game right now. I’ll do another post in 2-3 days and give additional details and thoughts for this snow potential snow threat.
Take Care Folks !
